Definition | Mandatory Internship is a practice carried out in public or private enterprises in Engineering (Relevant Department) related fields starting from the end of the fourth semester until graduation. The internship period must not coincide with any academic term including the summer school. |
Period | The mandatory Internship duration is 40 days. 20 days must be held as construction site internship and the other 20 days can be construction site or Office internship. If the student will continue her/his internship during Saturdays, an approval document by the company must be included in the report folder. |
Place | Internships may be done in workplaces announced by the Department and the Faculty or at institutions selected by the student and approved by the Internship Board. |
Process | The internship includes the following steps for each semester.

Internship report is a series of written and visual documents including all the activities and works held by the student during the internship. The folder of internship report will include the documents below in the same order:
The students can find the INTERNSHIP REPORT FORMAT in the ONLINE DOCUMENT LIST. The students can get access to IKU Internship Instruction from Istanbul Kultur University Legislation System. By force of Senatus Consultum dated March 31, 2016, valid starting from 2015-2016 Academic Year, the Internship I and II courses’ credits are not included as course credits in the transcript. The Senatus Consultum contains all the students interning after this date, and registered before or after this date |

All prospective students must apply to the compulsory internship via ONLINE FORM by entering their students accounts. On the online form, the students are required to upload the scanned document CORPORATION LETTER OF APPROVAL which the students get it signed to the corporation they want to work in. Only Double Major Students have to ratify COMPULSORY INTERNSHIP FORM in the internship application process. After advisor approval, the students file are created and their interns are insured by the Department Financial Affairs. The application must be completed 10 DAYS BEFORE the first day of internship!
- Student must deliver the INTERNSHIP REPORTS (OFFICE AND CONSTRUCTION) to the commission.
- Internship reports and Internship review forms must be assigned to Internship Commission by the announced date. In each term, the schedule and deadline for handing the reports are being announced on the Internship Board by the commission.
- Reports must be submitted to the comission members in the following year of internship. Older reports cannot be submitted.
- All the documents should be cased / foldered in the order and handed as one.
- All the documents in the report, including the photograph pages, must be signed and stamped by the contact person of the company.
- Report must be comprehensive enough to explain the activities during the internship process.
- The language of the report must be clear, using passive voice. (such as …was done …was observed)
- The report must be written necessarily in handwriting.
- In the case of more than one student interns in a company at the same period, their reports must be exactly different from each other. If the reports are same, both the students re-write the returned reports.
- Internship reports are inquired in accordance within the indicated instructions and evaluated as “Passed / Failed”. The first internship is listed within the course name of INTERNSHIP 1 (3 ECTS) at 7th academic term and the second one, INTERNSHIP II (3 ECTS) at the 8th term. These courses are not counted in GPA
The results are announced by the Internship Commission.

- Student contacts with the company to determine the exact dates and details of the internship.
- ONLINE APPLICATION needs to be held by the student via his/her student account. It is advised for the student to insure the internship as university is not responsible for insuring the international internships but the local ones.
- Internship period
- Internship reports need to be written in both languages, English and Turkish, and must be approved by the company to be submitted to Internship Commission. (If the student is a foreign student who does not know Turkish, only English report would be necessary)
