Structural Mechanics Laboratory

İstanbul Kültür University Civil Engineering Structural Mechanics Laboratory was established to carry out the necessary structural tests for education, training and research purposes. It is currently being used by undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students for education, training, internship and scientific research purposes and contributing to training projects, research projects, and R&D projects in terms of personnel and facilities.

In the laboratory, the loading tests of structural elements made of different materials such as reinforced concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and composites can be carried out. The Laboratory has the necessary facilities to perform tests regarding scaled structural elements, junction points, connection types, determination of breaking loads, measuring load-displacement-unit displacement relations, comparison with theoretical studies, examination of reinforcement/repair techniques of different materials, different elements and systems against earthquake, designing different nonstandard experimental setups, and is on its way to develop these possibilities. In order to carry out the loading tests, a 25-ton capacity reaction wall, reinforced slab, and a closed loading frame are used in the laboratory. It is possible to make static, monotonic, reversible-repetitive (cyclic) loading and the data can be collected and processed electronically.
