Our Faculty of Engineering academician Prof. Dr. Nihal Sarıer (IKU) and Prof. Dr. Emel Önder Karaoğlu (ITU, Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design)'s second international patent titled "WEBS WITH COAXIAL NANOFIBER STRUCTURE, A TEXTILE PRODUCT CONTAINING THESE WEBS AND A PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF (KOAKSİYEL NANOLİF YAPILI AĞLAR, BU AĞLARI İÇEREN BİR TEKSTİL ÜRÜNÜ VE HAZIRLANMA YÖNTEMİ)” was registered by the UK Patent Office on 15.05.2024 with the number GB2597373.
The invention relates to bio-based nanofiber networks capable of heat management in the regions of low temperature (T<18°C), normal temperature (18°C<T<43°C) and high temperature (43°C<T<70°C), a nanocomposite textile product containing these nanofiber networks and the preparation method of this product. These nanocomposite products have a high potential to be used as temperature-controlled packaging materials in the transportation boxes of biomedical products and medical products such as drugs, blood and blood derivatives, serum and biomedical products and in storage and transportation containers of ready-to-eat foods such as ice cream, cooked fish and meat and cold drinks that need to be stored and transported in the low temperature range. Another significant application area could be biotechnology. Cold and hot treatment materials can be made. Biomedical materials for thermal therapy, wearable thermal sensors can be made. It can be used in personal protective clothing systems for athletes, soldiers and outdoor workers. It can be utilized in solar energy panels, thermoelectric system designs and electronic circuit protections for hot climates. While these nanocomposites can be used separately, nanocomposites that are functional in different temperature ranges can be combined and applied in buildings, tents and similar shelters, vehicles such as cars and airplanes, temperature-controlled transportation, and medical applications.
